Penny Loafers, no socks.

I've had requests to go back to the old style of "outfit posts" that I used to do so what better time than New Year's Eve to change my ways and start something new.....well, old really but you get the idea.

disco pants- American Apparel
penny loafers, necklace, ring- Topshop
bag- Lulu Guinness
shirt- Primark/Penneys

P.S. I'm still a bit clueless with my new camera so any advice on how to take good outfit photos with a Canon EOS1100D would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Saturday Playlist

Taking a break from writing a report on the die forging process of connecting rods to bring you my Saturday Playlist.

"The Lovecats"- The Cure
Hadn't heard this song in ages but it came on the radio today on the way to the gym and I was reminded how much I like it so I thought I'd put it into today's playlist in the chance that you too might also enjoy it.

"Always Find Me in the Kitchen at Parties"- Man Like Me
Made famous by the Ikea ad, and I cannot tell a lie, this is where I too first heard it, but do not let this take away from the fact this is a (dare I use the word) "funky" tune.

"I Know You Know Me"- The Tease
Keeping with the theme of songs made famous by ads, here's another one for you. I can't right now actually remember what the ad was mind you, which I suppose shows the success of the song over the product it was meant to be advertising!

"Video Games"- Lana Del Ray
I know I had her in last week's playlist but I feel this song deserves a spot on the list as not only is it in the charts and thus widely liked, it is a nice break from the fast paced, dancey, "popular music" that's been abundant over the past few years. Lady Gaga I'm talking to you. Hopefully people are seeing sense and beginning to change their musical tastes for the better, not that I'm in any position to judge mind, I am going to see Westlife in June.

And on that note...

"Lighthouse"- Westlife
Out of place with my other music choices? yes
Controversial? most definitely
Good song? Well, I'll let you be the judge of that.
Being from Westlife's hometown it's difficult not to love the lads and listen to their Greatest Hits album on repeat with the girls while preparing for a night out; a night out where you in fact bump into said lads in your local pub might I ad. Okay so you may not like them but you cannot deny their insane success and even the most cynical among you might swallow your pride in admitting they've made quite an impact on the music industry.
You can keep your underground Brooklyn indie bands thanks, I like to support the locals.

Get a new camera....

...take loads of close-up photos of things in hi-def and think you're a professional photographer.

On Christmas Day...

And so this is Christmas.... and thus ends my advent posting.
I hope Christmas was good to you all as it was to I. I got an SLR camera so you can expect some pretty mediocre attempts at artistic photography up here in the near future. As for now, three "super-cool" photos taken on my phone with vintage effects aplenty.
 Enjoy!

Saturday Playlist

Hope everyone's having a lovely Christmas Eve! I'm curled up on the couch by the fire relaxing as one should be at this time of the year. Nonetheless I am here to bring you this Saturday's playlist without fail!

"Born to Die"- Lana Del Ray
Okay so maybe I'm a bit late jumping onto the old Lana Del Ray bandwagon and although I do prefer her debut song "Videogames"(I know she had an album before so I'm using debut in this context to mean "first song to be widely known"). I chose to put this song into my Saturday Playlist however due to the fact she's wearing a jacket pretty much the same as my Ferris Beuller one I posted about here
Girl's got style.

"White Winter Hymnal"- Fleet Foxes
Listened to this in the car driving home yesterday with my brother. I know the song but never knew it was Fleet Foxes. I generally don't know song names so really I shouldn't be writing about music......alas.... The wonders of the internet ay?! Giving people with no clue about a topic a sense of entitlement to write about it as though the were an expert.

"Karen"- The National
Over a year ago Dan put "Aligator" and "Boxer", two of The National's albums on my iPod and I was immediately hooked. I chose Karen for this Saturday Playlist as it puts me in mind of the character Karen from Californication. That said, if you've never watched Californication, go do it.

"Cemetery Gates"- The Smiths
This is my favourite Smiths song. It has a different kind of upbeat feel to it I feel compared to the usual somberness,  or "like sandpaper to the ears" as one of my friends once noted, associated with The Smiths. I guess you can't please all of the people all of the time!

"Lounger"- Dogs Die in Hot Cars
Great band name. Great song. Great dance.
(I know this isn't the actual music video but I thought these guys deserved to be included in my list for their efforts)

On the eve of Christmas eve...and Christmas eve...

The well known festive microbes

Santa Claus Crab Claw

And why wouldn't you have Christmas themed microbes and Clab Claw Santa Claus's on your Christmas tree? (not to mention the lion that is for some reason creepin' under our tree)

It's great to be home for Christmas and meet up with old school friends, a number of whom made me extremely embarrassed by telling me they read my blog. I know I put it up online but I never really think people will read it so it's nice to know that my writing and thoughts are somewhat entertaining to others and not just myself. So thanks to those who I was chatting to last night, and to everyone else a very
Merry Christmas!

On the twenty first/second day of Christmas...

Apologies for missing yesterday's post. I'm sure no one really cares but I feel bad for not keeping up to date with my advent posting.
On Tuesday Dan and I exchanged Christmas presents and I am now the proud owner of an Anne Klein red velvet blazer! It's like Christmas in a jacket and has an oversized black button to fasten it. Think little girl from Schindler's list in her red coat. I am besotted with it! I wore it yesterday in fact into town for the last little bit of Christmas shopping and paired it with the other present dan got me; a Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon tshirt that makes me feel like a badass.....or Alexa Chung ....or Ashley Green....either way I'm not complaining, though I think Ashley Green was in Twilight so I'd prefer to be Alexa Chung.

Not my blazer but one very similar

Alexa Chung in a Sonic Youth tee (my brother actually has this one that I may have to steal)

Ashley Greene in a Pink Floyd tee

As an aside, a few people have mentioned to me recently that they prefer my old outfit posts I used to do. I'm considering going back to that style of blogging if people enjoyed it so I guess watch this space!

Heading home for Christmas tomorrow!

Merry Christmas!

On the 20th day of Christmas...

Last week my friend Chloe (Clothilde) of thetraintattoo.wordpress.com asked could she use me for one of her "December Days" photos. Basically she is taking a photo and uploading it every day of December. She's extremely talented photography wise, not to mention modeling wise, just take a look here; stunning.
Anyways this is just one of the photos she took of me as I frolicked like a little kid around the Rose Garden in college in the freezing temperatures. Fair play to Chloe for making me look some way presentable. That's the sign of a good photographer if you ask me!
If you're interested, you can see the full series on her blog here.

On the 18th and 19th days of Christmas...

So yesterday we had our "Sligo Girls Christmas Dinner" night where we got as many of us together as we could for a night of festivities (though pesky delayed flights did prevent one of the crew from making it). So the plan was to have dinner and drinks and head out after but we all got tired come 11p.m. and so snuggled up on the couch to watch "Seven". Not the most Christmassy film I must admit but a good one nonetheless. I also was given the simple job of making dessert. Literally all I had to do was follow the recipe but I somehow still managed to mess it up as only I can when it comes to food so instead of being the yummy looking raspberry cheesecake brownies from the book, my friends inquired seriously as to whether I was attempting to serve them more mashed potato and gravy. Jamie Oliver I am not.
What my dessert should have looked like.

Now, usually I would be bringing you photos of this wondrous event all taken so artistically on my wonderful iPhone with vintage effects applied by the plenty, unfortunately though, a great tragedy has befallen my life in that on Saturday night at a friend's 21st, my beloved iPhone drowned. Due to this, I am back using my trusty old Nokia and seeing as my camera charger is still in Sligo, I have no photo taking apparatus. Heaven forbid, I know, I won't be able to take anymore photos of myself for a few more days.

As if losing my "hip-one" (Dan's name for my iPhone) wasn't bad enough, the internet was down in our house last night so I couldn't get my daily Christmas post up yesterday and thus the amalgamation post today.

Now time to relax a bit before another 21st this evening and then my Chrismas day with Dan tomorrow! I would say "expect photos to follow".......alas......

Merry Christmas!

On the fifteenth day of Christmas...

... a hello.
After over a year of blogging my brother told me today that he has seen my blog. Hey there brother if you're reading this. So basically, I can expect a mountain of abuse over Christmas as this is most definitely a source of great ammo.
Consider it an early Christmas gift.

Merry Christmas!

Meet Frassy...

...or rather Audrey Leighton of www.befrassy.com
I've been following her blog for awhile but hadn't really been keeping track until I stumbled across it again just there. This girl is my new style icon. I love how she looks so different in every photo but yet still keeps that similar "funky chic" style she's got going on.

Not to self: must buy more sunglasses.

Note: All photos here are from Audrey's blog befrassy.com. I do not own any of them.
